Ancillaries

This is a magazine advert for heavy metal band Motley Crue. The advert uses a dark, distressed looking background to make the advert look more suited to the rock genre, as black is a colour which is heavily associated with rock music. White writing is used to create a contrast between the information given and the background. The image on the advert is the main focal point. It uses bright colours which really stand out from the dark background, drawing the viewer's eye in even more. The main focal point is the animated image in the center of the advert. The advert is for a tour that the band is going on. The band members are included within the image, throwing fire through the middle of the image. The four men are all dressed in clothes which are typical for heavy metal artists to wear, such as leather. The men look quite dark and powerful as they are throwing the fire which you can see in the middle of the skull picture. The men are situated within lots of women in suggestive clothing, whilst the men are dressed in leather or sleeveless jackets. This suggests that men are superiour to women, and that women are just used as accessories to men, as they are just on the advert to make it look good.

Here is a magazine advert for the band Green Day. The advert is for a new album '21st Century Breakdown' and gives information on when the CD is out, and what single it features. The main focal point is an animated image of a man and woman kissing. The colour pallet consists of black, red and yellow. Black is typically seen in rock music adverts, as it connotes danger and mystery. The colour red connotes danger, love and passion, which relates to the main image. The main image looks lke graffiti and is on a brick wall, making it look darker and more mysterious. As the image is graffiti on the wall, it shows signs of rebellion, which is something that Green Day's song lyrics feature. The font is all in capital letters and looks like it has been painted on the wall, as there is paint dripping from the writing. The information is in white, red and yellow, which really stand out against the dark background.

Website research.

This is this website homepage for the band who's song we are doing, 'Five Finger Death Punch'. As soon as the webpage is clicked on, the bands name is clearly shown in the middle of the screen, with an animated picture from their lasted album cover. There main colour of the picture is a deep, bright red, which typically connotes danger. This is also clearly a metal band as the albums covers are usually bright, animated and catches the viewers eye with the mix of colours. As you scroll down, you are able to see information for the latest album, as well the webpage promoting it, with links to buy and download it instantly. The font is the same throughout the whole website, with thin, simple writing that is easy to read through; everything is also in capital letters, apart from the paragraph explaining the album. However, the font on the picture is in a bold font, so that it catches the viewers attention and if they saw the album in a store they would know the band's name straight away.

This is the website homepage for the band 'Linkin Park'. It is very similar to the previous webpage; the main focal point of the page is the animated picture of what looks like a statue pointing it's bow and arrow downwards, so that the viewer will scroll down to the rest of the webpage. At the top, there is a tab with the band's name in a bold, large front, and links to navigate around the website, all in capital letters like the previous webpage. The colours however are dull and simple in comparison to the colours on the previous website, and mosst images on the website are in black and white. The main colour of the webpage is grey, making it look dull and gloomy.
