Genre and the Conventions
Hip Hop - Pharrell and Snoop dogg - Drop it Like it's Hot.
Hip hop music videos genuinely consist of graffiti, bling (jewellery), dancing, half naked women, product placement, lose fitting clothing, more than one person rapping or singing in one video or one shot, racial steryotypes, swearing and money. The effect of this music video is that it shows a story of people who have started from nothing and made it to where they are now. This can be seen in the video where they show off all their money and expensive cars.
Rock/Metal - Escape the Fate - Ungrateful.
Characters in rock music videos wear dark, gothic clothing usually this is black. Their hair is always messy and the lead singer/majority of the band have long, dark hair which they use to swish around whilst perfoming to complete their look the band members always have a range of tattoos and piercings on therir bodies and sometimes they even wear make-up such as eyeliner. Rock music videos use lighting to portray the moods of their songs, even though there may be bright lights used the atmosphere tends to be more darker than mainstream videos. Camerawork used in rock music videos isnt very specific to the genre the only difference is that when they are showing a live performance in the video they tend to have close-ups of the instruments which they are playing such as the guitars or the bass pedal.
Pop - Taylor Swift - Shake it Off.

Pop music videos normally contain a veriation of musical conventions. for instence the video is all about the singer, constant lip-synicing throuhout the whole music video, dancing, costume changes, there is always cross cutting between different situations. All these conventions can be seen in Taylor Swifts music video 'shake it off', the effect of this is to make Taylor look like Americas sweetheart and a fun young happy person. This type of song is for all ages from 5 year olds to 95 year olds and everyone will enjoy.
