The Metal Genre

Heavy metal first came to England and the United States in the early 1970's following the rock music of the 1960's. In the 60's, rock artists such as Led Zeppelin and The Who were pushing the limits in the way they use the guitar amplifications and the way they behaved on-stage.

In the 1980's saw a rise in the popularity and musical progression. In the early 80's there was a movement within England called the 'New Wave of British Heavy Metal' which has bands such as Iron Maiden and Diamond Head. The blues riffs that was used in practically all of early rock music was now almost invisable in the metal songs of the 80's. The New Wave of British Heavy Metal was defined deep or screaming vocals, two electric guitars harmonizing and one bass guitar. The main themes of metal are about rebeling, love and lose, and death.
